Strathaven Fairtrade Events
Strathaven Fairtrade Group works closely with the community to promote Fairtrade principles and products. We do this by organising and participating in local events.
Coming Events:
- Next Meeting: Monday 24th of November at 7.00 pm in the Avendale Church, Kirk St. All welcome!
- On Reindeer Day in December, when Santa visits Strathaven, a Traidcraft stall will be organised to add to the festive fun. Date to be announced.
- Preparations for Fairtrade Fortnight are still being discussed.
Below is a list of our latest events:
- The schools' Poster and Poem exhibition was held on March. Linda Fabiani, MSP, and Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture in the Scottish Parliament presented certificates for the winning entries. Once again the children managed to produce fantastic art work. Click here to see the winning pictures.
- Strathaven Gala was a success in June. It was a beautiful summer day and the stall was very busy.
- Balloon Festival - The last weekend of August there was a Traidcraft stall at the annual Balloon Festival. We also had a stall on the Strathaven Airfield Open Day event. The weather was good and it was enjoyed by all.
- For One World Week in October, to celebrate the Fifth Birthday of Strathaven Fairtrade Town, a free event was held to thank local residents and businesses for their support over the years. Children from local Primary Schools enjoyed an African drumming session with Erick Mauricia. There was also a chocolate fountain and a free raffle of Fairtrade roses, while tea and coffee with delicious Fairtrade fruit cake were served. Stallholders with goods from all over the world reported on brisk business despite the poor weather. It was an extremely successful day.
