Strathaven Fairtrade Secondary Schools
The pupils of our primary schools come to Strathaven Academy with knowledge of Fairtrade principles. Here they continue their with
work with activities organised by their Fairtrade school club. The Academy is trying to achieve Fairtrade Status for the opening of the new building.
This season's activities at the Academy include:
A steering group has been set up and is meeting regularly.
We held a Fairtrade Friday in October, which featured a chocolate fountain - mostly healthy skewers and Fairtrade chocolate!
Pupils made ribbons in Fairtrade colours and banners to advertise.
Departments, including English, Geography, Business Studies and Modern Languages incorporated Fairtrade in their lessons.
Home Economics donated Fairtrade crispies to help raise funds.
Staff bases are being given the chance to have Fairtrade tea/coffee supplied by pupils.
Funds raised by our enterprising staff and pupils allowed us to plan an number of activities for Fairtrade Fortnight including
a Fairtrade T-shirt design competion (Fairtrade vest T-shirts bought from M&S Fairtrade range).
T-shirts were modelled at the Inner Wheel Fashion show in the Strathaven Hotel on the 4/03/09.
And the winning T-shirt was displayed in the window of 'Eden' Fashion shop.
The Art Department assisted with the printing of a number of the designs and Geography pupils produced a display on Trade as part of their Standard Grade work.
A coffee morning is planned for staff.
